Nicomedes Santa Cruz and Nicolás Guillén met personally in July 1974, in Cuba, on the occasion of the meeting 'Un Cantar del Pueblo Latinoamericano' (A Song of the Latin American People). However, there was already contact between them. In fact, they came close to meeting in Lima in 1970.
